The researcher will actively contribute to research activities in a recently established group that focuses on (1) putting a biodiversity-monitoring scheme into practice in Luxembourg and on (2) using up-to-date approaches in quantitative ecology to guide biodiversity conservation and management.
A large emphasis is on evaluating the impacts of global change (including climate and land cover change) on biodiversity across a range of spatial scales. More precisely, the researcher will be involved in the field acquisition of biodiversity data, in the analysis of these data using appropriate statistical procedures and in the reporting phases of different projects (dissemination and publications).
He/she will also participate in the methodological set up of future biodiversity related projects.
The candidate should contribute to the development of interdisciplinary research activities at the CRP - Gabriel Lippmann.
He/she will be expected to take advantage of substantial opportunities for collaboration within the department with fieldworkers, nature conservation specialists, climatologists and quantitative ecologists.
A Master with 4 years experience or a PhD, in biology, environmental sciences or (bio-)statistics with competencies in biodiversity conservation and monitoring, numerical ecology or biological data analysis.
Species identification skills and practical acquaintance with advanced GIS tools (ArcGIS functionalities) are required.
The candidate must be experienced in large database management and in advanced statistical analyses.
The candidate has to be motivated and needs to demonstrate a pronounced sense of organisation to be able to work in a structured (management of multiple tasks in parallel) and self-responsible (clear view of priorities) manner. Team management and supervision experience will be considered as an asset.
French (administrative language) and English (scientific exchanges) are a prerequisite.
