Researcher & Grants Adviser Working H/F

Mise à jour le 18/12/2007

Description du poste

The Foundation is now looking for a French researcher who could help map the French environmental movement, and to analyse the different NGOs which work on a number of major environmental issues (at the national, regional, and local level). Particular areas of interest are campaigns around transport issues and climate change, and work on local food and organic agriculture. The findings from this research will help to shape the Foundation’s grant-making strategies in the coming months, and we hope that this research post will turn into a permanent half-time position (2.5 days per week) helping the Foundation to identify cutting-edge work to fund.

Qualities needed: This post needs a bright self-motivated researcher, who can write and speak clearly in English as well as French. It would suit someone in their late 20’s or early 30’s who has had experience working in a campaigning NGO in France and who has an understanding of the challenges faced by social movements and NGOs. You will need to be systematic in carrying out the research, and will need to manage your own time, working from home and remotely from the director of the Foundation, Jon Cracknell, who is based in the UK most of the time. The research will be carried out on-line and by phone, and will also involve some travelling within France in order to meet NGOs in different regions. Being based in Paris would be ideal in terms of logistics.

You will need to be comfortable talking to a wide range of campaigners and potentially also to the staff of other foundations and those running French Government or European Union funding programmes. It is important that you can respect and appreciate the different approaches to environmental change taken by different types of NGOs, and that you are both tactful and discreet.

The post has considerable potential for the right candidate.

Profil recherché

Practicalities: we are looking for a researcher to start with immediate effect, from July 2006, to carry out an initial two months of mapping or ‘scoping’ research, either full-time or part-time (2.5 days a week) basis, and on a self-employed basis, as a freelance consultant. Salary level will depend on experience but will be around 3,000 to 3,500 euros per month if full-time, and pro rata if you are working fewer hours (i.e. for 2.5 days a week around 1,500 to 1,750 euros per month).

If interested: please send your CV and a covering e-mail in English to Jon Cracknell – jon@jmgfoundation.org by Monday 10th July.
