Post-doctoral researcher in coastal modelling and hydrodynamics H/F

Joining the Bureau de Recherche Géologique et Minière (BRGM) means becoming part of the leading public establishment in the Earth sciences, bringing together 1,000 expert and passionate people in 29 entities located in mainland France and overseas. BRGM's activity is aimed at geological knowledge and understanding of phenomena related to the soil and subsoil, with one challenge: to meet the challenges of environmental change through innovative projects with societal implications.

As part of your work, you will be mainly responsible for :
-Contribute to developments in coastal hydrodynamic modelling for the characterisation of the marine flooding hazard;
-Contribute your skills to various multidisciplinary BRGM teams (technical and scientific centres in Orléans and Bordeaux, and territorial directorates) and partners (academic, research centres, etc.);
-Writing study reports, short notes or summaries;
-Promote and disseminate the results (oral and written communications, scientific publications);
-Contribute to the development of BRGM's research activities in natural coastal hazards (regional, national and European research projects) by putting together scientific proposals in the context of calls for projects;
-Acting in agreement with scientific partnerships of national and international excellence.

Profil recherché

Researcher with an engineering degree and/or PhD with a background in applied mathematics, fluid mechanics, sedimentology or physical oceanography. You have at least 3 years of experience in processes and modelling in the field of coastal hazards and in the field of research and expertise in these themes.

You will mobilise the following skills and qualities:
-Practice of numerical modelling tools for coastal processes (sea levels, waves, submersion, etc.) with the implementation and co-development of efficient numerical tools (codes solving the Saint-Venant/Boussinesq equations according to unstructured meshes and high order schemes);
-Knowledge of hydrodynamic processes in coastal areas;
-Fluency in French and English (oral and written) essential (TOEIC +800);
-Accurate and rigorous, you ensure the reliability and relevance of the results obtained;
-Excellent interpersonal skills, availability, organisation and rigour in carrying out, organising and reporting work;
-Ability to work in multidisciplinary and multi-thematic teams (engineers, researchers, technicians);
-Ability to work in multidisciplinary and multi-thematic teams (engineers, researchers, technicians); Oral skills and ability to write technical reports, scientific articles (in French and English) and to present scientific and technical results;
-Autonomy and sense of responsibility.
