Modelling engineer in hydrology and hydrogeology H/F/X

The Water, Environment, Processes (DEPA) department provides solutions to societal challenges in terms of water resource management and the environmental impact of human activities on the geosphere. You will join the Water Resource Management Unit (GDR) to develop calculation codes in hydrology and hydrogeology in order to support research on the hydrographic networks and the aquifers in order to optimize their quantitative and qualitative management at different scales (local, regional, national).

The activities of the GDR Unit combine observations, field investigations according to the methods used in earth sciences, aquifer monitoring, methodological developments, development, maintenance and diffusion of digital simulation tools, flow and transport modelling in aquifer systems, with the objective of providing decision support for public policies, developing research and offering services to the industrial sector (national and international) for optimized resource management.

You will be in charge of :

- You will coordinate and contribute to research projects on the management and the quantitative and qualitative protection of groundwater resources in connection with surface water and climate change
- You will model groundwater flows in connection with surface water (groundwater-river and urban network exchanges), the impacts of climate change (climate scenario projections)
- You will contribute to and, if necessary, coordinate public or private research projects, in support of public policies and international cooperation
- You will disseminate the results in the form of technical reports, scientific publications and presentations at conferences.

Experience : 1 - 5 years

You have a PhD with previous post-doctoral experience, if possible done abroad. This full-time position involves travel, primarily in France and sometimes abroad.

You will mobilize the following skills :

- Solid knowledge of hydrology, hydrogeology and connections with climate change and surface water;
- Experience in programming and development of computer code (Fortran 90, C++, Python, R) appreciated;
- Expertise in modelling hydrosystems including groundwater flows, surface water and the calculation of the surface water balance;
- Knowledge of climate scenario projections at different spatial scales for impact studies in hydrology;
- Good interpersonal skills, ability to work well as part of a team, strong motivation, organisation and attention to detail in performing and delivering work, and compliance with the contractual clauses;
- Initiative and creativity;
- Good oral and written communication skills, to present the scientific and technical results of the projects (publications, articles, presentations at conferences);
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
