Vacancy within the Maritime Hydraulics team (HMAR), which works 95% of the time on projects for the Maritime Activity. The team is composed of about twenty staff members.
The HMAR team works mainly on the following topics:
* Industrial ports, commercial harbours and cruise terminals
* Marinas and fishing harbours
* Marine energy/submarine cables
* Waterways
* Maritime transport
* Maritime works
* Statutory studies
* Coastal development, coastal protection, sea fronts
* Bays, estuaries, wetlands
* Integrated coastal zone management
* Coastal industrial sites (water intakes, outfalls, outlets)
The HMAR team performs assignments of all types: design studies, general studies, feasibility studies, research and development for public- and private-sector clients, in France and abroad.
DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION:
Main duties will consist in:
* Acting as Engineer/Project Manager on any type of maritime study, but more particularly:
o the port engineering field: hydraulic and hydrodynamic studies, design of overall layouts
o design of maritime structures from the ship berthing standpoint: navigation, berthing and mooring studies
o studies of floating structures: ships, caissons, pontoons, etc.
* Commercial/client management, production of bids and project management.
* Management of assignments with financial arrangements of all types.
* Port and maritime engineer - minimum 5 years of university studies, ideally in the port and maritime engineering field. A general engineering background in this field is desired.
* Level of experience required: 5 years minimum
* Desired previous work experience:
o Experience of working at firms specialising in maritime fields (port and/or offshore).
* Some of the knowledge listed below would be an advantage:
o Knowledge of best practices in the berthing and mooring of commercial vessels (international standards e.g. PIANC, OCIMF, British Standards, API, DNV, etc.)
o Knowledge of metocean phenomena (waves, wind, currents, etc.)
o Basic concepts of geotechnics
o Knowledge of maritime design and construction supervision
* Behavioural skills:
o Self-motivation, technical rigour, inquiring mind, ability to work independently
o Strong interpersonal skills: team worker; strong listening and verbal communication skills
o Strong writing skills (analysing and summarising)
* Language skills: strong proficiency in English and French - technical in particular (ability to read and understand technical documents and write reports in English/French).
* IT skills: In addition to solid knowledge of the Office suite, a good command of mooring software applications (DIODORETM, OPTIMOOR, SHIPMOORINGS, ARIANE or equivalent) is an advantage.
* Specific requirements of the position: travel for several days at a time in France and other countries may be necessary.
