Agro-economist and International Trade marketing - Vanuatu H/F

Egis Bdpa, subsidiary of Egis international, is a French consulting company that specialises in economic, institutional and rural development.
For European Union framework contract (lot 1), 'Opportunity analysis on fair trade and organic niche markets' in Vanuatu, Egis Bdpa is looking for 2 senior experts for short-term mission.

The specific objectives of the contract are to assess the benefits and costs to engagement in organic production and/or fair trade niche markets; to analyze the possibility to reduce the costs of certification and traceability and finally to establish the feasibility of a Vanuatu Organic branding mechanism.

The profile of the 2 senior experts is;
Agro-Economist - team leader
• At least a Masters Degree Academic Level in a discipline directly relevant to the task: Economics, Agricultural Economics or equivalent degree; alternatively an equivalent professional experience in a related field of at least 6 years;
• At least ten (10) years of general work experience and expertise in commodity production and marketing gained internationally, of which a minimum of four (4) years in a developing country situation;
• Knowledge of and experience with smallholder production and with organic production and marketing is desirable;
• Proficiency in spoken and written English is essential, whilst a working knowledge of French will be an advantage;

Prior experience in the Pacific region would be an asset.

International Trade and Marketing Specialist
• At least a Masters Degree Academic Level, in a discipline directly related to trade and primary sector marketing: economics, international trade, marketing, agricultural economics or equivalent degree; alternatively, at least 6 years equivalent professional experience in a related field;
• At least ten (10) years of general work experience in his/her field of expertise, of which at least six (6) years of proven experience in development of trade and marketing of agricultural commodities in a developing country context;
• Knowledge of and experience in niche marketing and fair trade of tropical agricultural commodities, including audit and certification is essential;
• Proficient in spoken and written English is essential, whilst a working knowledge of French will be an advantage.

The planned starting date of the mission in Vanuatu is 1st of February 2012.
The overall duration of the assignment (including reporting) is expected not to exceed 4 months.
