The role
To manage and develop the operational controlteam both in Bramhall (Greater Manchester) and Dublin, in line with agreed policies and procedures. This includes implementing and developing OC procedures, tools and materials, planning and monitoring the OC rota, developing the team and acting as the key interface between the Control Room and other internal teams. Additionally this role will be responsible for recruiting, inducting and overseeing new team members until competent to work independently.
Job Description
KEY TASKS/DUTIES
Responsible for the operation and continual development of the WPO Operational Control Systems and personnel in line with Wind Turbine Safety Rules;
Responsible for ensuring that procedures for the Operational Controller function remain current and up to date from a HSE perspective and also that from an internal Operations and monitoring perspective;
Responsible for management of Operational Control shift patterns, the authorising and planning of Operational Controllers leave and management of sickness absence
Responsible for undertaking performance development reviews and team meetings.
Assist with the creation and development of emergency planning and procedures for all Operational sites in the event of an Emergency
To assist with other HSE or operational duties as required
Assist with development and implementation of any new systems on behalf of OC, for example WTSR module – and then organising in house workshops to embed these.
Interface with the IT team to ensure that the IT issues are getting tracked and solved
Monitoring and analysing call logs, connection checks and OC handovers
Writing OC reports for regular management reviews, being proactive and making suggestions for improvement.
To ensure appropriate records are maintained of accidents, incidents or near misses and maintain an accurate log of site restrictions/hazard identification
Work with the HSEQ team to ensure that up to date on line site inductions and site safety documentation and Operational Safety Plans are in place for each site
Interface with the Technical Support Engineers to ensure that the OC function is effective and meeting all necessary requirements,
Provide an active contribution towards ensuring operations and maintenance activities are carried out to industry best practice and regulation in terms of Health, Safety and the Environment.
The Person
A HNC or equivalent in an engineering related subject would be desirable or qualification through significant proven ability in an engineering related environment
Essential – Clear and confident communicator both verbally and in writing
Essential – Willingness to work shift work/ non routine hours including weekends
Essential – Able to work on their own and as part of a team
Essential - Previous experience managing staff
Desirable – Previous knowledge/experience of Wind Turbine Safety Rules and experience within the function of Operational Control.
Highly Desirable – 2 years + previous work experience in Operation of Wind Farms;
Desirable – Knowledge of LV/ HV systems
Desirable – Health and Safety qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely) or experience
Proven ability to quickly learn and effectively adhere to new processes and procedures
Flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the business; flexible on hours to cover shifts
Contributes to a positive team environment
Drive, enthusiasm and self-motivation
Superior written and communications skills in both spoken and written English
Holds valid, clean driving licence;
Willingness to travel as required as the Operational Controller function operates out of the UK and Ireland and is highly likely to expand to other countries.
