The DR Congo is one of the three countries with the worst drinking water and sanitation supply. The Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has adopted a new water law that now makes provincial governments responsible for water supply. However, they are not yet able to deal with this task. The main urban drinking water supplier is not working to improve the situation. Moreover, there is a lack of well-trained managers and skilled professionals in the water and sanitation sector who can perform management and technical tasks. The objective of GIZ’s Supporting the Water Sector Reform (RESE) project is to improve service delivery among key actors in the provision of drinking water and (basic) sanitation. It concentrates on carrying out measures in three regions: Bandundu, Equateur and Kasaï. The project is continuing to support processes for driving political sector development at national and provincial level. The reform process designed to strengthen the secondary centres of the REGIDESO (Régie de Distribution d’Eau de la République Démocratique du Congo) and awareness-raising campaigns will help to ensure integrated development of the sector and to improve the socio-economic situation and health of the population.
Your tasks
• Providing organisational advice to REGIDESO on its restructuring process
• Providing technical advice to REGIDESO’s professional and managerial staff on improving operational management
• Carrying out internal quality assurance (for example, using Capacity WORKS)
• Monitoring results
• Overseeing knowledge management and producing publications
• Networking and communicating with other donors in the water sector
