Scientific research at the BRGM is focused on furthering geological knowledge and understanding surface and subsurface phenomena. The key issue at stake is to meet the challenges of global change.
The BRGM is interested in a post-doctoral researcher specialised in chemical or physical modeling for a 12 months contract beginning in the second half of 2014, for its Water, Environnement and Ecotechnologies division.
The working place is based at Orléans, France (at about one hundred and ten kilometers south west from Paris).
Tasks
In the context of geo-environmental applications (geological storage of pollutants, study of aquifers vulnerability to pollutants), BRGM is interested in a postdoctoral researcher working in the modeling of transport properties of electrically charged particles. We are seeking a highly talented candidate to investigate the surface electrical properties of the mineral/water or water/gaz interfaces and their influence on macroscopic transport properties of suspended particles (nanostructured colloids, gaz bubbles) or charged porous media.
The chosen applicant will use the existing models developed by the research team and also develop new electrostatic surface complexation and transport models. These mechanistic models will be compared to experimental data (surface charge densities, apparent zeta potentials, stability ratios or low frequency complex electrical conductivities).
Good skills in programming (Matlab, C, Fortran) and in the use of geochemical codes (Phreeqc) would be appreciated.
The applicant must have a PhD diploma in chemical or in physical modeling and has to be familiar with Earth Sciences and interfacial phenomena.
