Publiée le 27/11/2015

Description du poste

BRGM is the French Geological Survey: the French reference public institution for Earth Science applications to the management of surface/subsurface resources and risks. Its key objectives are:
- Understanding geological processes and associated risks, developing new methodologies and techniques, producing and disseminating high-quality data;
- Delivering the necessary tools for the management of soils, subsoils and their resources, risk prevention and policy responses to climate change.
BRGM aims at supporting public authorities, industrial companies and the civil society in addressing sustainable development challenges.
The Risks and Prevention Division offers a permanent position for an expert in Remote Sensing. The position is based in Orléans (Loiret, France) and the anticipated starting date is the first trimester 2016.

Position description:

Within the Cavity, Auscultation and Imagery Unit (staff ca. 20) of the Risks and Prevention Division, the candidate will carry out applied research as well as consultancy for the public or private sector worldwide. The candidate will participate to Research and Development activities in Remote Sensing applied to natural/non-natural risks resulting in ground surface deformation (Landslides, ground subsidence, seismo-tectonics, post-mining, ...) in collaboration with the other Units of the Division.

The candidate will be in charge of:
- Performing research and development of space-borne and possibly ground-based data processing methodologies applied to ground surface deformation measurements -in the framework of Natural Risks studies
- Contributing to write funding proposals at a national, European and International level (ANR, H2020, World Bank). The candidate is expected to contribute to the coordination of projects at all level.
- Dissemination-communication of scientific results (i.e. peer-reviewed publications, contributions to national/international congresses, internal reports, etc.)

A post-doc (or other form of professional experience) in a relevant field will be considered an asset.

The candidate will use the following skills or knowledge:
- Strong technical knowledge in image processing in the domain of space-borne imagery applied to ground surface deformation measurements (in particular SAR interferometry and radar/optical offsets).
- Programming skills such as IDL, Matlab, shell programming.
- Prior knowledge of INSAR processing tools, such as GAMMA, are preferred but knowledge of Diapason, roi-PAC, or other InSAR processing chains will be considered.
- Human ability to integrate a team and work with different kind of people knowledge-sharing capacity.
